York Guest House Map / Directions

Alcuin Lodge Guest House is based very close to York city centre but in a quiet residential area. We are only a short walk from all amenities. Below are directions from the train station on foot, as well as directions from arriving in York by car. Traffic in the historic city of York can be very busy and car pollution causes damage to the city walls and cathedral. We encourage guests to use public transport wherever possible and we are only 10 minutes on foot from the railway station. You are very unlikely to need a car in the city as all the main attractions are within a 15 minute walk from Alcuin Lodge (York Minster is 7-9 minutes on foot from us).

On Foot From York Railway Station

(National Express coaches also pick up / drop off opposite the station)

Don't head for the main exit.

• Walk along Platform 4, passing the "York Tap" pub on your right (Platform 3 becomes Platform 4 as you walk along) 
• Just after, step right and immediately left along the car park (parking lot), with the cycle racks on your right
• At the end of the parking area, you walk on to the bridge (rail bridge) across the river. There are no steps
• At the other side, step to your left along the left side of the car park until you reach the end of it
• There is an underpass to the left which takes you under the railway line
• On exit, step left and immediately right - this is Sycamore Place
• Alcuin Lodge is towards the end on the left side (just after the junction with Sycamore Terrace) 

By Bus From York Railway Station (approx every 10 mins)

1. Take the No. 2 First York bus from Station Avenue (exit the front of the station and turn left. Cross over the traffic lights, staying on the same side of the road and the bus stop is the last one/stands alone).
2. The bus crosses the river bridge, stops outside the Museum Gardens/Library, goes past York Theatre Royal, turning left at the lights. This is now Bootham. The Bus Stop you need is a few hundred metres along on the left, at Bootham Terrace (opposite a red phone box and hotel).
3. Walk down Bootham Terrace and take the first right. This is Sycamore Place. Alcuin Lodge is close to the end of the cul-de-sac, on your left

By Car 

Alcuin Lodge is only a few minutes from the York outer ring road (A1237) on the north side of the city. If you use your SatNav/GPS, it is likely to lead you through the city centre and slow traffic. Directions below are a longer distance but likely to be much faster:

1. From the ring road (A1237) on the north side of the city (about 11 o'clock if you're looking at a map), take the A19 towards the city centre along Shipton Road. As you approach the centre, you will pass Clifton Green on your right (a small open space which looks like a village green).
2. A few hundred metres along, you will pass St Peter’s School (a very old building) on your right and drive under a footbridge.
3. Shortly after, turn right opposite The Churchill Hotel, down Bootham Terrace.
4. Take the first turning right which brings you to Sycamore Place.
5. Alcuin Lodge is at the end of the cul-de-sac, on your left. Parking is directly opposite to the house.
